Book Sighting!

I embarrassed my daughter and befuddled my husband today.

Week after week, I'd cruise Wal-Mart as usual and check out the book aisle. No book. Not Windswept Weddings.

At last, I found it.

Do you remember that scene from the movie "That Thing You Do" when the band heard their song on the radio the first time, and they ran and screamed?

Well, um. Yeah. I didn't actually scream, nor did I run. I think I gave a giddy little squeal and trotted across the big aisle to the book section.

An author's life is not glamorous. We sweat and cry and work in solitude many times. This is one of those moments to savor.

Of course, I was immediately humbled and laughed at myself. Guess where the price tag was?

Yup. Covering my name. I love God's sense of humor.

Well. um...you weren't planning on giving those books away, were you???
Wow, you know, when I think back on that critique group all those years ago, and look how many are now published - barring myself of course, I wonder if there are other success stories out there like that? I think that's an amazing number of writers to succeed out of one group.
It must be very exciting to finally see your name on the cover of a real book - even though you didn't really see your whole name....did you look inside to make sure nothing was covering it up there?? :0)

At least they knew where to put the value, right? Seriously, though, congrats--I'm so proud of you!

I am way behind in seeing this, but congratulations, Lynette!! I would've been whoopin' and hollerin' for ya' if I'd have been there. =) Next time they'll know enough not to cover up the famous name with a price tag. *g*
